West Penn Township has received nearly $80,000 in grants to repair township roads, thanks largely to the efforts of its roadmaster.

Supervisor Tony Prudenti announced at Monday's board of supervisors meeting that the township has received four grants.The grants are as follows: Bolich Road ($20,698); Sunny Road ($14,871); Walnut Lane ($16,814); and Beagle Road ($27,336).Prudenti lauded roadmaster Singleton Harvey for his role in helping secure the grants."Because of Sing's efforts, we got all four grants," Prudenti said. "That was terrific."CDBG fundsAlso on Monday, supervisors discussed the $85,656 allotment in Community Development Block Grant funds.Prudenti said he would like to see that money get split into two components; to the elderly for home renovations, and either half or three-quarters to correct sewage malfunctions for those who cannot fix their sewers.Board Chairman Jim Dean added, "I was thinking of the sewage, too."The project options are expected to be reviewed at the board's Aug. 21 meeting.Other actionSupervisors also:• Agreed to intervene in the appeal from the decision of the township's zoning hearing board on June 12.• Announced that the well ordinance draft is available to the public for review, and agreed to advertise for the hearing, public comment and possible adoption at the board's Aug. 21 meeting.• Agreed to advertise for the hearing, public comment and possible adoption of the windmill ordinance at the board's Sept. 18 meeting.• Agreed to allow the township's tax collector to use a portable sign during business hours.• Announced the following events will be held at the township's fire department: Monthly breakfast, Sunday; and Northwestern Night in the Country Aug. 19.
