Tamaqua man finds intruder in home

A Tamaqua man woke up at 3:42 a.m. Aug. 6 to strange noises coming from his kitchen. He thought it might be one of his children, but was surprised to find a stranger standing there.

The homeowner was able to grab the strange man and shove him out the door, then called police.Officers found a man fitting the description they were given, stumbling around in the area of the East End Fire Company. He was identified as Thomas Tessitore, 34, of East Broad Street, Tamaqua, and was positively identified as the intruder by the victim.Tessitore said he thought he was in his own home. He appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance and officers found a syringe and a baggie containing a substance that field tested positive for methamphetamine.Tessitore was arraigned before duty District Magisterial Judge Christina Hale on charges of criminal trespass, possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.Judge Hale set bail at $25,000 straight, sending Tessitore to the Schuylkill County Prison in Pottsville.
