Progressive youth group to hold first meeting

Young people from Carbon County who are in high school or college aged (13-25) and would like to learn more about progressive issues are invited to an organizational meeting of Progressive Youth of Carbon County at 7 p.m. Aug. 22 downstairs at the Inn at Jim Thorpe, 24 Broadway, Jim Thorpe.

"The goal of the group is for young people to have an opportunity to discuss progressive point of view on issues including, but not limited to, the importance of civic engagement and registering to vote, protecting the environment, health care reform, and insuring LGBT rights," said Christian Gould, an incoming senior at Jim Thorpe High School."Ideally, we'd like to have representatives participating from each of the five school districts in Carbon County including Palmerton, Lehighton, Jim Thorpe, Panther Valley, Weatherly as well as Lehigh Carbon Community College."Interested students can join the Facebook Group Progressive Youth of Carbon County.PYCC is a project of Carbon County Democrats for Progress, which meets at 7 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month September through May at the Inn in Jim Thorpe.For more information, or to indicate you would like to attend and/or to arrange a ride to the meeting, contact Christian Gould at
