Bowmanstown discusses repair work
The Bowmanstown borough has been working vigorously over the past few weeks to find a short-term fix for deteriorating road conditions.
The borough council is still receiving quotes to deal with issues on the lowest quality roads in Bowmanstown.President Cathy Hawk met with Zach Willard, a financial adviser, to discuss possible loan opportunities for a long-term repavement plan."The borough would be able to loan up to $1,215,000 maximum at a time to do road repairs," Hawk said.Willard suggested the idea of a rollover loan with repairs starting on all streets that received an "F" grade in the engineer's report. The project will more than likely mean an increase in property taxes.Following the discussion of road repair, some residents had concerns about the borough's plan to take control of garbage collection. While no residents had a problem with the idea, they wanted to be sure that the service would remain the same as previously offered.Council combined its responses to ensure that everything previously offered for trash collection would remain consistent.Steve Hartz gave an update on the construction of the wall mural in town."We have contacted John Laidecker, an artist from Philadelphia to design the wall mural and have found a grant to help fund part or all of the project," Hartz said.He said they would have to apply for the grant through the borough. Burdell Steigerwalt made a motion to authorize the application of the grant through the borough. The vote passed and the project will move forward upon receiving the grant. The White Street guide rail project was monitored by the borough during the physical completion. The DeAngelo Brothers, Carbon County Planning Commission, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and the borough are now finalizing paperwork to properly finish documentation of the project. The repair to the wall at the corner of Mill and Apple streets will be done later this week depending on the weather. The repair will be made by Pany Concrete Form Inc. at a cost of $1,500.The borough crew will be working this upcoming week to spread new mulch on both of the community playgrounds.
