Founding member attends group's 40th conference

An avid fitness consultant.A former World Powerlifting Team coach.No matter the avenue Jake Boyer pursues, success always seems to follow.Boyer, of Weissport, attended the 40th Annual National Strength and Conditioning Association National Conference and Exhibition held recently at the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas.A National Strength & Conditioning Association founding member, Boyer said the group's first meeting took place at the University of Nebraska in 1977.The National Strength & Conditioning Association was founded in 1978 by a group of strength coaches who shared a desire to network, collaborate and unify the profession."(It) kept growing and growing," Boyer said. "You saw the importance of this."Today, the organization has a membership of 28,000 exercise professionals, and more than 40,000 people actively certified through one of four certification programs."Now, it has grown into a multimillion-dollar business," said Boyer, who opened his first gym in the mid-70s at Sixth and Coal streets in Lehighton.Boyer has an extensive and varied background in business, management and a long and successful career in education.He retired as superintendent of Jim Thorpe Area School District in 2007.These days, Boyer is all about helping his clients meet life's challenges as an adjunct professor, career coach/life coach, motivational coach and educational consultant at Wilkes University.In his capacity, Boyer provides consultation services to individual, educational and corporate clients on matters such as educational issues/concerns, career counseling, meeting personal/professional challenges, staff/employee motivation, parenting, fitness, self-esteem, establishing and reaching goals, and collaboration for success."I stayed within the realm of weight training because it's so important in everyday life for everyone," he said.Boyer can be reached at 610-751-6634, or
