August 7, 1954 - Dick Koons leads a 16-hit attack as Lehighton upsets Jim Thorpe in a Tri-County Legion game, 7-2. Koons collects four hits, one a double and one a triple, and scores a run. Dick Koch adds three hits and a run, while Gerry Rothermel contributes two hits and a pair of runs. Bob "Cookie" Arner gains the pitching win, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out five. The winners, managed by "Moose" Kunkle, also receive two hits and a run from Ron Moyer. Despite the loss, Thorpe clinches the league title when second-place Hazleton loses its game.
