Eldred Twp. accepts deed to take possession of Old Mill property

In a resolution signed Wednesday evening, Eldred Township accepted a deed of dedication from Western United Life Assurance Company for a piece of land at 592 Kunkletown Road in the township. The land is the same lot that used to house a very old grist mill that was recently demolished.

Last year members of the board had requested tax lien abatements from both Monroe County and Pleasant Valley School District. Both governing bodies had agreed to waive the tax liens providing that the township take ownership of the property and that the property be maintained and used by the township and not sold to a private individual. The resolution signed Wednesday is conditioned on receipt of the final approval of the tax waivers.Supervisor Gary Hoffman made a motion to have a new survey of the property to confirm boundary lines. The property sits along the Buckwha Creek, next to the stone arch bridge. The township intends to use the lot as a "town square" in the future.Kuehner FieldsAlso attending the meeting was Attorney Steven Harts, who represents S and D Land Development, the owners of Kuehner Fields. Harts was there to inform the supervisors that there are changes to the deed restrictions that are being made. The development was originally approved around 2007, according to those present at the meeting. The minimum lot size is 2 acres, but many are larger. Harts indicated that there are potential buyers looking to house horses, and the developers are modifying the deed restrictions and covenants to permit horses consistent with the township's subdivision and land development plan.Hoffman made a request that no formal action be taken until the township's zoning officer had an opportunity to verify that the changes would comply with township rules.Air conditioningThe supervisors accepted a bid from Super Heat of Portland, Pennsylvania, to install three ducted heat pumps at the Eldred Township Community Center. The air conditioning will be paid for out of the MCDI grant. Each unit will cost $5,242.50 for a total of $15,727.50. The approval is tentative pending approval by the granting organization. The township also approved a motion to repair or replace three to five of the garage doors in the road department. The approval is for up to $15,950.The supervisors also approved a motion to advertise the sale of a John Deere grader, an F350 dump truck and a gasoline generator.Hoffman also made a motion to have the township's roadmaster perform a traffic study in the area of Lobach Lane and Borger Road. Residents attended the meeting and recounted a number of issues related to speeding and a need for a stop sign.
