Chef to give demonstrations at farmers market

A cooking demonstration will be featured later this month at the Lehighton Downtown Farmers Market.

Aaron Jablin, Executive Chef at the St. Luke’s Miners Campus, will be on hand in the borough park at 10 a.m. Aug. 19.At that time, Jablin will give guided shopping tours of the market, followed by cooking demonstrations using produce and ingredients selected that day from the market.Visitors who attend may meet with Chef Jablin at the St. Luke’s tent, where they can accompany him as he shops for fresh ingredients to be used in the cooking demonstration.“St. Luke’s goal is to demonstrate how easy and fun it is to shop for and cook with the fresh, healthy and delicious ingredients that are available every Saturday right here in downtown Lehighton,” said Micah Gursky, St. Luke’s Miners Rural Health Clinic administrator. “St. Luke’s also wants to promote the local producers at the market, and encourage healthy eating choices, because good eating is important to good health.”There is no charge or age restrictions for the demonstration, and tasting samples will be available.Attendees should bring their appetite for fresh food, and ask lots of questions.The day will also mark Old Fashioned Day in the Park, as there will be old-fashioned milkshakes, a scavenger hunt, pie in the face game, and other activities for all ages.Hosted by the Lehighton Downtown Initiative, the Lehighton Downtown Farmers Market debuted in May, and will continue to run every Saturday through Oct. 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the borough park.Special events will continue to be held on the third Saturday of each month, including a flea market and yard sale Sept. 16.For more information, follow the Lehighton Downtown Farmers Market Facebook page.
