Red Cross honors Lehighton seniors

The American Red Cross awarded three Lehighton High School seniors a combined $2,000 scholarship for collecting 60 units of blood at school blood drives.

The scholarships were presented by Sarah Laible, who is involved with the student Red Cross chapter at Lehighton.Laible became involved with the Red Cross in sixth grade and volunteers with the Pocono Red Cross Chapter.She has run five blood drives and volunteers with the Run for the Red.Tia Brownmiller and McKenna Knappenberger each received a $750 scholarship.Mason Smith was awarded a $500 scholarship, and $200 scholarship from Miller-Keystone.Brownmiller will be studying international relations at the University of Pittsburgh.Knappenberger will major in nurse anesthesiology at Penn State.Smith is focusing on psychology at Penn State Lehigh Valley.To qualify for the scholarship, students answered questions about their involvement with the Red Cross Club, how they serve in the community and how they would use the scholarship money.These seniors have been members of the Red Cross Club at the Lehighton Area High School.
