VFW AuxiliaryThe regular monthly meeting of the Nesquehoning Memorial Auxiliary to VFW Post 8008 will be held onAug. 11, beginning at 1 p.m. at the post home.Items on the agenda include the Hometown Heroes project, being done in conjunction with the Nesquehoning Historical Society; the upcoming Veterans Day parade in November; and the "Friends helping Friends" event for Boscov's on Oct. 17.Several members will be attending the Leadership Conference, being held Aug. 11 to 13 at Camp Hill. Information from those sessions will be given to the proper chairmen and be reviewed at the September meeting.All members are encouraged to attend this meeting with many events being held in the next few months and much assistance being needed.Panther ValleySenior CenterThe menu at the Panther Valley Senior Center for the week of Aug. 7 to 11 is:Monday: Squash soup and franks & beans or niçoise saladTuesday: Baked fish and mac & cheese or chicken ranch sandwichWednesday: Chicken and spaghetti or tuna sandwichThursday: Ham with pineapple sauce or chicken craisin saladFriday: Pork with pineapple and rice or egg salad sandwichThe center has also announced upcoming events.Pizza Day on Aug. 7; Sunshine Meeting at 10 a.m. followed by Scattergories at 11 a.m. on Aug. 8; Bingo at 11 a.m. on Aug. 9; a Boscov's shopping trip with CCCT on Aug. 10; card games on Aug. 11.Music Together Class will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Aug. 14; Chair exercise at 10 a.m. followed by horse racing on Aug. 15; Birthday and Bingo starting at 11 a.m. on Aug. 16; Chair exercise at 10 a.m. and Karaoke at 11 a.m. on Aug. 17; a picnic will be held at Jim Thorpe Memorial Park starting at 9 a.m. on Aug. 18.For more information or to sign up, call Fran Craigie, senior center operator at 570-669-9930.New members are always welcome.
