Palmerton library summer events

The Palmerton Area Library's Summer Art Camp is fast approaching for children age 7 and up. It runs from 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 7-11. Most of the materials are provided.

Pzpzpz444@gmail.com to sign up.The day after camp ends, the Student Art and Photo Show will be held. The show runs from 1-3 p.m. Aug 12. Youths ages 6 to 18 are encouraged to participate.All types of art and photos will be accepted, but entries need to be delivered to the library by Aug. 10. Cash prizes will be awarded to youths in two categories.Refreshments will be provided at the show by the Friends of the Library.The library will also be holding its annual basket auction and book sale starting Aug. 4. The book sale will run to Sept. 9, and the basket auction drawing will take place on Sept. 11.But long before then, the library is in need of themed-basket donations worth at least $35 for the auction, which can be donated by an individual or a group. The baskets don't have to be wrapped.Don't want to put together a basket, but still want to help? Monetary donations are welcome and can be used to purchase items for a basket or to purchase a gift certificate from a business in Palmerton.As far as the book sale, more than 2,000 books are available to purchase. The cost is $2 to fill a bag with books. Bags are provided by the library.The basket auction and book sale is one of the library's biggest fundraisers, next to its golf tournament.The Palmerton Library Annual Golf Tournament will be held Aug. 25 at the Mahoning Valley Country Club. Teams are forming now.Registration will begin at 8 a.m., shotgun start at 9.
