Tamaqua man indicted for child pornography

A Tamaqua man has been indicted in federal court on charges related to child pornography.

Corey Sheidy of Greenwood Street came to the attention of federal authorities in a case that began in Houston, Texas.U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say the case started with a request from Homeland Security Investigations in Houston in 2016 after 22 videos containing child pornography were found in a Kik social media chat room.During the investigation, Sheidy was identified as the user of the Kik account where the videos originated.Homeland Security officials in Philadelphia then took the lead on the investigation. A search warrant was executed at Sheidy's home in December, when his computers and electronic devices were confiscated.The federal indictment was handed down on May 16 and Sheidy was arrested on May 24 on multiple felony counts of receipt/distribution of child pornography and possession of child pornography.He was released, with an ankle monitor, awaiting trial.ICE and Homeland Security officials were assisted in the case by Pennsylvania State Police, Tamaqua Police and Falls Township Police.
