Get ready to rock out at the Lehighton National Night Out this Tuesday.

Carbon County ROCKS!!!, the local phenomenon that is putting an artistic face on the surface of stones around the region, will be hosting a table at the event.The social media-based activity revolves around kids and parents decorating rocks, posting a photo of themselves with their art and a clue of where they will hide it, and encouraging hunters to get out and find the little treasures."A friend of mine, (Detective) Matt Arner, asked if we could participate," group organizer Amy Collins said. "I agreed, and we're so happy to do it. We're going to have a table with some painted rocks on it, and we'll explain what the rocks are, what we're doing, how to paint them, and what to do when you find them."With more than 1,500 members, the Carbon County ROCKS!!! is becoming quite the local sensation. Organizer Karissa Mitchell said that she was introduced to the idea from a friend in New Jersey. A little research revealed that similar games were going on around the country, even at Disney World."The benefits are that kids are going outdoors, and not sitting on electronics so much," Mitchell said. "Getting everyone to do creative art while spending family time together, meeting new people and seeing new things, it's great."Collins even prepared a set of special rocks for the Night Out. Some will feature police-oriented artwork, while others will function as memorials for victims of the opioid epidemic.So, make some time during the Night Out to hit up the Carbon County ROCKS!!! table. I've been painting them since before this whole thing started. It's therapeutic, and it gives everyone something to do besides watching TV," Collins said.
