Seven first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program last week by Judge Steven R. Serfass.

People who successfully complete all conditions of the program have their record wiped clean.However, if the fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they will face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.All were placed for a year, unless otherwise noted:Marc David Krahel,29, of Wilkes-Barre, was placed on a driving under the influence charge. He was arrested on Nov. 23, 2016, along Maury Road in Penn Forest Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He was assessed $600 for the cost of the program and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and license suspended for 60 days.Corey McHugh,41, of Jim Thorpe, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Sept. 24, 2016, along Bridge Street by Lehighton police. A test revealed a 0.15 blood alcohol content.He was assessed $500 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and license suspended for 30 days.Bruce Allen Miller, 36, of Lehighton, was placed on a DUI charge. He was arrested on Dec. 22, 2016, along Interchange Road by Franklin Township police. He refused a blood test.He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and license suspended for 60 days.Colleen Moyer, 23, of Dunmore, Lackawanna County, was placed on a DUI charge. She was arrested on Nov. 24, 2016, along Route 903 at Maury Road in Penn Forest Township by state police at Lehighton. A test revealed a 0.10 blood alcohol content.She was assessed $500 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and license suspended for 30 days.Benjamin D. Sasso, 26, of Jim Thorpe, was placed for 2 years on a simple assault charge. He was arrested on May 20 by Jim Thorpe police for an incident at a home on the 700 block of South St.He was assessed $450 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 100 hours of community service.Quamir Rashon Simmons,18, of New Castle, Delaware, was placed on a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana. He was arrested on April 17 along the turnpike in Penn Forest Township by state police at the Pocono barracks following a traffic stop.He was assessed $450 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Josiah Isiah Williams, 19, of Slatington, was placed on a charge of possession of marijuana. He was arrested on March 13 in the area of 20 Mauch Chunk St., by Mahoning Township police.He was assessed $450 and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000, a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program and those charged with DUI, must follow any recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
