A Connecticut man is in custody and another fled into the woods after pointing a gun at police Tuesday night.
According to Mahoning Township Police, at 5:50 p.m. police were called to the Verizon store on Route 443 for a burglary/retail theft and hit and run.
More than $4,400 in electronics were reported stolen from the store.
Two males suspects fled the scene in a vehicle heading west on Route 443.
While entering the highway they struck another vehicle. The suspect vehicle was spotted by West Penn Township Police and stopped on Route 309.
The passenger in the car pointed a gun at the West Penn officer, according to police. The man then fled into the woods.
Police searched the area off of 309 near Country Tile extensively with the assistance of the state police helicopter.
The passenger has not been captured.
The driver of the vehicle fled the traffic stop and headed into Tamaqua where he was stopped by police and taken into custody.
He is Zachary Chandler, 31, of Waterbury, Connecticut. He was taken to Carbon County prison on the following charges, burglary, retail theft, receiving stolen property, fleeing or attempting to elude police officer, accidents involving damage to attended vehicle or property and reckless driving.
