Washington appoints building code officer

Washington Township supervisors appointed Ann Lett as building code official. She will be paid hourly on an as-needed basis.

She has been doing the work in neighboring municipalities and has worked with Washington zoning officer Todd Weidman.This month bids were opened for paving work with the low bid of $142,000 from Bruce George Paving and Excavating. The bid will be reviewed by solicitor John Ashley before final acceptance.A seal coat bid from Asphalt Maintenance Solution of $96,969 was the only bid received and will also be reviewed.MowingThe lot between East Avenue and Spring Lane has not been mowed for two years. The township has mowed the edges this year. Residents would like to see it mowed.The lot on West Grant Street that was the Slatedale Playground has also not been mowed.BurningJohn Perich, who brought burning complaints to the June meeting, said neighbors who also burn do not want him to bring it to supervisors' attention because they don't want to be stopped.Dwayne Henritzy is the fire marshal and is the only person from the township with the authority to order people to stop burning.Supervisors' Chairman Josh Freibolin said the township is trying to cut down on burning to help clear the air and if everyone paid for garbage pickup there would be less need for burning.Perich said one man who is burning has his burning barrel near a gas tank.Overgrown bushesWilliam Kistler said at Brown Street in Slatedale the bushes are growing out into the road near the old parsonage.
