Rush Township hires part-time officer

Rush Township supervisors last week hired Michael Weaver as a part-time police officer at a rate of $20 an hour, retroactive to July 13.

Under public comment, resident Charles Shamonsky asked the board if it would hold a moment of silence in honor of his brother, Joe Shamonsky, who recently passed away.No response was given by the board.Shamonsky also asked if snow emergency signs would be posted before winter.Board Chairman Shawn Gilbert said they are working on it.Charles then asked what he has to do to get a handicapped sign put up.Gilbert told him it's in the process.Resident Bill Boyer asked why Walnut Alley is blocked off and only two people can use it.Gilbert said it's blocked until the township gets a chance to fix the road, as the township has a lot of road projects.Further, Gilbert said it isn't a priority at this point, as there are other matters that need to take precedence.Boyer said that for two years, the township has had it barricaded.Gilbert told Boyer that a manhole needs to be repaired.
