Man admits stealing guns from father

A former Carbon County resident admitted in the county court on Friday to stealing guns and other items from his father to feed his drug habit.

Joseph Jerome Hornick III, 30, formerly of Beaver Meadows and now listing a Hazleton address, pleaded guilty before President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II to theft, a felony 2.Hornick admitted removing three guns, boxes of ammunition, a camera, two bicycles and prescription medication from his father, Joseph Hornick Jr., ofBerwick Street, Beaver Meadows. The incident was reported on Dec. 24, 2016.Hornick, who is an inmate in the Berks County prison being held on Schuylkill County charges, is facing a restitution bill of $16,316 when sentenced.Nanovic accepted the plea but deferred sentencing because Hornick wants to apply for placement in the state's Intermediate Punishment Program.He will be transferred to a state prison to be evaluated. If he is rejected for the program he will be brought back to Carbon for sentencing.If accepted, the program runs for two years and included about seven months in prison, followed by months in a inpatient intensive rehabilitation program and then a halfway house.
