Man lies about his name, goes to jail

A Tamaqua man, who lied about his name when he was caught shoplifting, ended up in the Schuylkill County prison in Pottsville on July 11.

Tamaqua police responded to Fegley's Mini Mart on Center Street at 1:25 p.m. for a man who had stolen a bottle of Gatorade. A man matching the description provided by store employees was found at Burger King. That man had a bottle of Gatorade and an orange bag.The man identified himself as Christopher Cruz, but officers soon discovered he was really Adam Cruz, 35, of 20 Clay St.Cruz later admitted to giving his brother's name because there were warrants for Adam's arrest.Officers found three syringes, six wax baggies, a switchblade knife and a small, clear plastic zip bag with white residue in the orange bag. An additional syringe was found in his pants pocket.Cruz was held at the station until a parole officer picked him up and took him to prison on the warrants.Additional charges include possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of an offensive weapon, retail theft and providing false identification to law enforcement.
