Slatington man enters plea for assault by vehicle

A Lehigh County man pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Tuesday to a charge of aggravated assault by vehicle, a felony 3, stemming from a crash in which his passenger sustained serious injuries.

Alan D. Miller Jr., 25, of Slatington, entered the plea before Senior Judge Leonard Zito, of Northampton County.Miller was originally charged with 15 counts. Among the charges dropped by the district attorney in a plea bargain was aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, a felony 2, and accidents involving death or injury, a felony 3.Miller also pleaded to DUI and three summary motor vehicle code offenses of driving at a unsafe speed, careless driving and reckless driving.Miller was charged by state police at Lehighton for an incident on Oct. 7, 2016, in which troopers attempted to stop his vehicle.He led them on a chase and eventually crashed his vehicle. A passenger in the vehicle, Brian Karlick, 26, of Nesquehoning, sustained serious injuries to his right arm in the crash.Miller is currently an inmate in the county prison.Zito deferred sentencing because Miller needs a drug and alcohol evaluation for the DUI charge.
