Man gets prison on endangering in police pursuit

A Walnutport man was sentenced to a prison term in Carbon County court on Tuesday after pleading guilty to a charge of recklessly endangering another person.

Derek Leon Frable, 33, entered his plea before specially presiding Senior Judge Leonard Zito, of Northampton County.Frable was arrested on Nov. 27, 2016, along Delaware Avenue by Palmerton police. Police attempted to stop him for a traffic violation and he fled. Speeds reached 140 mph at one time, police said. Police broke off the chase due to safety concerns but managed to secure the license plate on the vehicle Frable was operating. He later was confronted by police and admitted to driving the fleeing vehicle.In exchange for the plea the district attorney's office dropped a fleeing or attempting to elude charge among other counts. He was originally charged with seven counts.Frable also pleaded to summary offense of driving at a unsafe speed and driving under suspension - DUI related.On the recklessly endangering charge Zito sentenced Frable to serve six to 12 months in prison and on the suspension count 60 days in prison, with the terms running concurrently. He was fined $500 on the suspension charge and $25 on the unsafe driving count.Frable is currently an inmate in the county prison.
