Man gets prison for DUI, conduct at police barracks

A Monroe County man was given a short prison term for driving under the influence and for his conduct at a state police barracks after his arrest.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic sentenced Justin Robert Mazur, 43, of East Stroudsburg, to serve 10 days to six months in prison. A mandatory minimum for the offense is six months probation but the judge ruled Mazur’s actions at the Lehighton state police barracks justified giving the jail term rather than probation. The state police arrest report indicated after Mazur was taken to the barracks for processing on Aug. 6, 2016, he urinated on the floor of the barracks and then exposed himself to one of the troopers.Mazur denied both allegations.Troopers had stopped Mazur along Sunny Rest Drive in Lower Towamensing Township. He refused to submit to a blood test. He pleaded to DUI and disorderly conduct previously. In addition to the prison term, on the DUI charge, Nanovic imposed a fine of $300. On the conduct count he imposed a fine of $300 and costs.Mazur must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole. He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. on Sept. 20. Nanovic approved the later start time for the prison term to accommodate Mazur’s work schedule.
