Jim Thorpe plans 34th 'night out'

Jim Thorpe residents are invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the "34th Annual National Night Out" crime and drug prevention event.

Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored locally by the Jim Thorpe Police Department and Jim Thorpe Community Watch, the event will be held from 6-9 p.m. Aug. 1 at Jim Thorpe Memorial Park.This year's event in the borough will feature first responders from the Jim Thorpe Area, over 20 organizations and civic groups, food, drinks, games, a fire show by Crufeli Troupe, and music provided by DJ Monroe Berger.National Night Out will involve over 16,500 communities from all 50 states, US territories, Canadian cities and Military bases around the world, and is designed to heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; generate support for and participation in local anti-crime efforts; strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnership; and send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.The Jim Thorpe Police Department would like to thank the borough, Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, the Mauch Chunk Trust Company, DJ Monroe Berger, and Crufeli Troupe, for supporting the event.They would also like to thank the many organizations and civic groups for agreeing to volunteer their time to help make the event a success.
