Wanted person jumps in Lehigh; taken into custody

A man who had an active warrant for his arrest took to the water Monday afternoon to flee from police.

Robert Adam Miller, 54, of Lehighton fled from Lehighton Police on Lehigh Drive by entering the Lehigh River shortly after 2 p.m.

According to Mahoning Township Police, Miller swam downstream, crossing from side to side.

Miller eventually got out of the river and hid on the Mahoning Township side in heavy brush. A Mahoning Township officer spotted his feet sticking out of the brush.

Miller was taken into custody by officers from Lehighton, Mahoning, and the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission.

Pennsylvania State Police, and Franklin Township Police assisted in the search.

At the time of his flight he had an active Carbon County bench warrant. According to court records, he is scheduled to plea in a disorderly conduct case.
