Towamensing offers CPR/AED class

Towamensing Township will be hosting a set of classes for emergency resuscitation at the end of July.

Hosted by the Friends of Beltzville Park and Towamensing Township, the Basic Adult CPR/AED course will be held at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on July 29 at the Towamensing municipal building.The classes, led by certified American Red Cross teacher Ed Portley, will cover basic cardio-pulmonary resuscitation and rescue breathing, along with techniques on saving a choking victim, and the use of an Automated External Defibrillator. Certification obtained from the courses will be valid for a two-year period.This is meant to be a community-based course, and is not intended for professional rescue workers."I'm also the emergency management coordinator for Towamensing, and I can tell you, the more people who take this class, the better. You could end up being that good Samaritan," Towamensing vice-chairman Thomas Newman said.Each class is $75, with registration and payment due at least seven days prior to the class.Class size is limited to 12 students per session.To register, visit

When you know this information, you'll feel so much more comfortable if you have to use it as a caregiver or a volunteer," Szwajkowski said.
