The July meeting of STEP Up Tamaqua, originally scheduled for July 17, has been canceled.

Instead, members and anyone interested in fighting the local addiction problem are welcome to participate in the "Out of the Darkness" candlelight walk, sponsored by Safer Streets for Tamaqua's Little Feet, on July 22, or the July 23 Carbon-Schuylkill sober picnic.The walk will begin at 6:30 p.m. at Tamaqua's Bungalow Park. Special guest speaker will be Vance Johnson, former NFL football wide receiver. In addition to Johnson's motivational talk, there will be food, music, T-shirts, Chinese lanterns and other speakers.The picnic, sponsored by STEP-Up Carbon and STEP Up Tamaqua, will be held from noon to dusk at the Koch-Wildoner Pavilion at Mauch Chunk Lake Park, between Summit Hill and Jim Thorpe. Participants are reminded to bring a covered dish to share and their own chairs.STEP Up Tamaqua is a program of the Tamaqua Area Faith Fellowship Network, working under the organizational umbrella of the Tamaqua Area Community Partnership.
