Man charged after fighting police in Weatherly stop

Weatherly Police have arrested two men accused of attempting to flee from a traffic stop while allegedly under the influence.

Charges were filed Tuesday against 29-year-old David G. Miller. A second, unidentified suspect hasn't been charged.Police said that Miller refused to pull over his vehicle after an officer initiated a traffic stop on a gray Mazda on the 1000 block of E. Main Street.During the ensuing chase, police said Miller and his passenger flipped off the officer and shined lights into his car.The car eventually stopped on a dirt road off of South Lehigh Gorge Drive. Police said Miller complied with police and got out of the vehicle. While the officer was placing Miller under arrest, he allegedly started fighting him and telling his passenger to flee into the woods. The officer subdued him with a stun gun, but the passenger fled into the woods. The officer searched Miller and found four yellow pills and a blue pill suspected to be Xanax. They also found eight packets of suboxone in his wallet. They also saw an open bottle of beer in the center console.Another officer who arrived on scene interviewed Miller and determined that his speech and mannerisms suggested that he was under the influence of a narcotic.Miller was charged with fleeing or attempting to elude an officer, resisting arrest, DUI, and four counts of possessing a controlled substance. He was sent to Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000 bail. The second suspect was later arrested, according to a Facebook post from Weatherly Police. They said that charges are pending against that person.
