Tamaqua Raider Band Director Mark Beltz has announced the dates for summer rehearsals and band camp.Summer rehearsals for instrumentalists will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on July 18 and July 25. Drum line rehearsal will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. on July 20 and 27.Old and New Night will be held on Aug. 1. New members will rehearse from 4 to 6 p.m. All instrumentalists will rehearse from 6 to 8 p.m.Band Camp will begin at 8 a.m. Aug. 7. Camp is mandatory for all band members.All rehearsals will be held in the band room.Karnie volunteersThe Tamaqua Salvation Army will hold its annual Kidz Karnival on Aug. 1 in the Railroad Street parking lot.Volunteers are needed to help set up and tear down, as well as monitor the rides, booths and more.A meeting for volunteers will be held at 6 p.m. July 20 at the Salvation Army, 105 W. Broad St.To volunteer, or for more information, call 570-668-0410.Health seriesSt. Luke's Miners Campus in Coaldale is sponsoring a series of continuing education sessions on a variety of health topics. The sessions will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. the third Friday of every month in the first floor community room.The July 21 session is themed "National Parks and Recreation" and will focus on ways to enjoy the outdoors safely when using an assistive device.To reserve a seat, as seating is limited, call 570-645-8157.Light refreshments will be served.Cressona bandThe Cressona Band will present a concert at the East End Playground on July 26.The music will begin at 7 p.m. at the park, which is located on Mountain Avenue.Concertgoers are welcome to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets. The refreshment stand will be open.St. John LutheranThe Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at this Sunday's 9:15 a.m. worship service in St. John's Lutheran Church.Upcoming activities include: July 20, property committee meets at 7 p.m.; July 24, Messenger assembly at 9:30 a.m.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Kenneth Buckwalter will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church in Mantzville. Sunday school classes will be held at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the church board will meet at 10:30 a.m. and the bell choir will rehearse at 6 p.m.Next week's activities include: Monday through Friday, Vacation Bible School, 6 to 8:30 p.m.; Tuesday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.Closing ceremonies for VBS will be held at 10 a.m. July 23, during the outdoor worship service at West Penn Park.Zion LewistownPastor Jim Williams will officiate at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at Zion Church, Lewistown Valley.
