Tamaqua man charged in hit-and-run, was DUI

A Tamaqua man has been cited in connection with an accident on April 13 after police received the results of blood tests done at St. Luke's Miners Hospital in Coaldale.

Police received a call at 3:01 a.m. about a hit-and-run incident on Washington Street. The caller said a red minivan had struck a parked car and then left the scene.Officers arrived and found fresh scratch marks in the street, leading to Clay Street. At the end of the scratches sat a red Dodge Caravan with significant passenger side damage and a blown front tire. The van was resting on its rim. A records check came back to Christopher Lopresto, 55, of Lombard Street, Tamaqua. Police went to the home, but were unable to make contact with Lopresto and went back to the accident scene.Several minutes later, Lopresto arrived and admitted striking the parked car, saying he left because he had had a few alcoholic drinks.He was transported to the hospital for blood tests. The results came back positive for alcohol and Diazepam. His blood alcohol content was measured at 0.281 percent, more than three times the legal limit of 0.08.He was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving under the influence of a controlled substance and hit and run.
