Six defendants entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence and related counts last Friday in Carbon County court.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted pleas from the following:Shawn Michael Conner, 33, of Weissport, pleaded in two counts of DUI in two pending cases. He was arrested on the first DUI count on March 16, 2016, along Union Street by Lehighton police. The second arrest occurred on Nov. 22, 2016, along Route 209 in Towamensing Township by state police at Lehighton. In both cases, a test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Conner can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Lauren Shellock, 42, of White Haven, was arrested on Aug. 30, 2015, along Route 534 by Kidder Township police after he crashed his motorcycle. He also refused a breath test. He was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked from it for violating conditions.Matika sentenced him to serve 48 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $500, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. July 14.Henry Louis Reinert, 54, of Blakeslee, was arrested on Feb. 12 along Route 903 by Kidder Township police. He refused a blood test.A first offense, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.George Michael Cope, 30, of Tamaqua, was arrested on Oct. 27, 2016, along North Chestnut Street by Summit Hill police. He pleaded to driving under suspension-DUI related and possession of drug paraphernalia.Cope is currently an inmate at the state correctional institution at Camp Hill serving a three- to six-year term for a drug count.On the suspension charge, Matika sentenced him to serve 45 to 90 days in jail (must serve the full 90 days) and a fine of $500. On the paraphernalia charge, he was placed on probation for a year concurrent to the suspension count. The sentences run concurrent with his state term.Jeremy Paul Beil, 44, of Bethlehem, was arrested on May 12 by Mahoning Township police along Mahoning Drive East. He also pleaded to fleeing and eluding police, a felony three. Police attempted to stop him on his motorcycle but he fled. Speeds reached 108 mph during the pursuit before police stopped him. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.He also pleaded in another case to one count of possession of a controlled substance. He was arrested on Oct. 31, 2015, by Lansford police in the parking lot of the Turkey Hill Minit Market along Patterson Street, where police found him slumped over the wheel of a vehicle.Matika deferred sentencing because Beil needs a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation. He will also apply for placement in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program-house arrest.Trevor Shawn Strohl, 36, of Palmerton, was arrested on Feb. 2 along Blakeslee Boulevard Drive East by Mahoning Township police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred because Strohl needs a drug and alcohol evaluation.Those sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole/probation and follow any recommendations of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
