Cat rescued in fire at Polk Township home

A fire contained to the basement of a Polk Township home was under control within 20 minutes Sunday morning.

Polk Township Fire Chief Billy Tippett said crews were dispatched around 5 a.m. to a home along Interchange Road, near Burger Hollow Road, for an automatic fire alarm."When we got on scene, smoke was coming out of the eaves of the house," Tippett said. "There was a little smoke damage on the first floor, but thankfully we were able to contain everything to the basement."The homeowners, according to Tippett, were on vacation, but crews did rescue one cat from the residence.Fire personnel remained on scene until 6:40 a.m.A section of Interchange Road was closed while crews worked at the house."The cause is under investigation," Tippett said. "It's not suspicious or anything like that, we just have a couple of things to go over before determining that."West End Fire Company and Kunkletown Volunteer Fire Company assisted at the scene.
