The stench from the burning of garbage has raised the ire of a Walker Township resident.

James Wentworth, who lives on River Road, expressed his concerns to the township's board of supervisors on Thursday.Wentworth told the board he has to keep his windows closed due to the odor of the items being burned."They have to know they can't be burning toxic stuff," Wentworth said.Supervisors Chairman Bill McMullen asked Wentworth if he's contacted the state Department of Environmental Protection.Wentworth said he has, but was told it's a township problem."It smells terrible," he said. "I just don't know what we can do about it."Board solicitor Chris Riedlinger said he believes that DEP prohibits the burning of certain items.Township secretary Ann Ostergaard said the township does have a burning ordinance in place as part of its nuisance ordinance.However, Ostergaard said the ordinance does not prohibit burning in the township, but rather, only the burning of specific hazardous materials similar to the items prohibited by DEP.Riedlinger said the difficult part is proving what exactly is being burned.McMullen instructed Ostergaard to contact DEP.Wentworth said the situation has gotten out of control."I can't keep my windows open," he said. "It's not fair to me; it's not fair to my wife."
