Fight back against bullying

Come together to share some compassion and caring for those who need it most at the Lehighton Recreation Center this Saturday.

From 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., the center will be holding the Forgive and Forget Campaign, the brainchild of student Jazzmin Sicher.Sicher is looking to raise awareness for depression, anxiety, suicide, bullying, and cancer by holding discussions, encouraging attendees to share their own personal stories, and collecting donations for cancer charities and those who need assistance."None of this is for me, I am doing this because I don't like seeing people struggle," Sicher said. "I love helping people and making them happy."Sicher said that she draws inspiration to provide help and hope, thanks to her personal experiences with bullying, depression, and suicide."A lot has inspired me, because I've gone through so much in my life. I was bullied, and it caused me to be home schooled. I've seen other people bullied, and I wanted to do something to help them," Sicher said. "I've also had people around me commit suicide, and I don't think that's something that should happen."With an aspiration to become an actress, Sicher is looking forward to using her future notoriety to help even more people, as two actors from one of her favorite shows, Supernatural, have done with their own campaign, "Keep on Fighting.""The actors from the show, Jared Padalecki and Jensen Ackles, they do their own campaigns, helping people with depression, and that inspired me as well," she said.In fact, the Forgive and Forget Campaign is just the kick off of Sicher's charitable ventures. Later this summer, she will be working with Motorcycles for Mikey, a benefit ride for a young boy with leukemia. Future projects include raising funds for underfunded schools, and families without health care, food or shelter.Saturday's events will include the aforementioned discussions and sharing, as well as a bake sale, basket raffle, and question and answer period.Sicher's friends and family pitched in for the effort, with Kaitlyn Graver and Aleah Nothstein handling the bake sale, and Aleshia Balak and Jagrr Sicher helping out with decorating and security.Tickets are $7 and can be purchased at the front desk of the Recreation Center. Children under 8, as well as any person with special needs, are free. Contributions of any amount are welcome, no matter how small."I'm going for as much as I can possibly raise," Sicher said. "Any amount of money, even a dollar, helps."
