Eldred lowers speed limit on Meixsell Valley Road

The Eldred Township supervisors this week agreed to lower the speed limit on Meixsell Valley Road to 40 mph. The supervisors had agreed to look into the matter after a number of residents expressed their concern with speeding on the portion of the road that runs through the township.

Meixsell Valley Road runs from Old Route 115 in Saylorsburg to Fiddletown Road in Eldred Township. The section of the road that is in Saylorsburg was already posted at 40 mph.Township secretary Ann Velopolcek said the new speed limit signs will cost the township between $800 and $1,050. The signs will be installed by township employees.The supervisors also voted to accept property owned by F. Scott Smith into the township's agricultural security area.The supervisors also took action to limit the use of the township's bucket truck. There are issues with operating the bucket. The township has budgeted for a replacement and the road department was instructed to not use the bucket on the truck in the meantime.The community center committee reported that the Thrift Store continues to be successful. The supervisors renewed the lease for the West End Food Pantry.
