Ethnic Day festival is Saturday in Lansford

The annual Panther Valley Ethnic Day festival will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Saturdayin Kennedy Park, located next to the Panther Valley football stadium along West Patterson Street in Lansford.

The festival, sponsored by the Lansford Alive Events Committee, will feature music by the M&J Big Bank orchestra from Pottsville. The 20-piece brass band will play from 2-4 p.m. Then the Rodney Clouser's Rock-N-Horse band from Tamaqua will perform classic rock and country folk music from 6-8 p.m.The festival other activities will feature ethnic food from church and civic organizations as well as local home made crafters.Buster the Clown will be on hand to juggle and make balloons animals for the kids from 3-6 p.m.The park's coal car was recently restored by students from the Carbon Career & Technical Institute in Jim Thorpe. The highlight of the festival will be the rededication of the car during the day.The committee is hoping to continue to make improvements to the park. Planned improvements include replacing the roof and banisters at the park's gazebo. Last year the park's 40-year-old coal miners monument was pressure washed and refurbished.All proceeds from the festival are used to continue revitalizing the park.
