A Schuylkill County driver is facing a charge of driving under the influence following a one-vehicle crash that occurred around 11 p.m. on Monday along Route 209 (Market Street), in Branch Township.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said Elvin R. Kessler, 51, of Minersville, was driving a 1995 Honda Civic northbound, just west of the intersection with the Gordon Nagle Trail, when his vehicle struck a bridge abutment on the south side of the road. The vehicle came to rest at the point of impact.Kessler was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital South, Pottsville, before troopers arrived. Troopers interviewed him at the hospital and found him to be under the influence of alcohol.He was placed under arrest for DUI. Charges are filed, troopers said. The Civic had to be towed from the scene.
