Valley Regional Warriors win 14U softball tournament

The 14U Valley Regional Warriors girls travel softball team opened its 2017 summer season with a first-place finish in the PONY Keystone Select Steamtown Sizzler national qualifier fastpitch tournament in Scranton. The team, which is made up of girls from the Tamaqua, Panther Valley, Hazleton, Crestwood, Lake Lehman, Nanticoke and Wyoming Area school districts, went 5-0 during the two-day event. Three of the Warriors' first four wins came in walk-off fashion before they capped the tourney with a dominant 11-6 victory over the Robbinsville, NJ Rampage. Team members were, front row from left, Lauren Kalinowski, Brenna Beshock, Aleah Kost, Rachel Goss, Lexi Thomas; back row, head coach Alan Kost, Lily Harden, Maxine Beers, Julia Mooney, Jade Sency, Alexis Dalesandro, Athena Matenkoski, scorekeeper Mike Beshock, and assistant coach Dave Kalinowski. Riley Egan was also a member of the team.
