Panther Valley students learn about math, science in camp

The Panther Valley Intermediate School held a free weeklong math and science camp for third-graders who will be entering fourth grade in the upcoming 2017-2018 school year.

The camp has been running for more than 20 years and was funded by the Panther Valley Foundation up until two years ago. The Panther Valley School District took it over when the foundation was dissolved, and it relies on grant money to keep it going. The students are introduced to the new building they'll be attending, and they are taught several science and math concepts such as solid, liquid and gas, measuring units, weather and storms, cloud classifications, weather instruments and more. When asked what they liked about the camp experience, Matthew Mullen, 9, from Lansford, said, "It was great. Teachers were nice, and we got to do a lot of fun things."Emmilee Schore, 9, from Coaldale, said, "I like doing projects, seeing my friends Lily and Hannah."Sabrina Scheffmeyer, 8, from Lansford, said, "Camp is having fun and seeing all my friends, and doing cool experiments was the most fun."
