A Schuylkill County man was found unconscious in a vehicle, with a gun on his lap, and two young children in the back seat.
State police at Schuylkill Haven said about 4:10 a.m. on June 22 emergency medical personnel were dispatched to 532 Third St., Port Carbon, for an unresponsive man sitting in a vehicle. On scene the responders found a man, later identified as Travis Gorey, 26, of Port Carbon, sitting in the driver’s seat appearing to be unconscious. As the responders approached the vehicle they saw two small children sitting in car seats in the back. They also saw that Gorey was in possession of a firearm which was resting in his lap, covered by his hands.After troopers arrived on scene they were able to secure the firearm from Gorey. The children were removed from the vehicle and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital South, Pottsville. They were later cleared and determined not to be injured.Gorey was placed under arrest on charges of illegal possession of a firearm, child endangerment, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Pottsville, unable to post bail.Troopers were assisted at the scene by a Schuylkill EMS unit and volunteers from the Port Carbon Fire Company.
