Scores rescued in Susquehanna river tubing event

MARIETTA, Pa. (AP) — Authorities say scores of people were rescued after becoming stranded at a tubing event on the Susquehanna River in Pennsylvania.

Fire officials told LNP newspaper (http://bit.ly/2s3ZcB1 ) that responders were dispatched at about 1:40 p.m. Saturday to the East Donegal Township area.Adam Kosheba, chief of Maytown-East Donegal Township Fire Department, said rescue boats from Bainbridge Fire Company and two other departments were initially deployed to rescue someone with a broken ankle on one of the islands.But numerous personal rafts then reportedly became stranded on the islands or in the water across from Riverfront Park. Kosheba said emergency responders rescued 55 people while several others were rescued by personal boats.Event organizer Nick Finicle apologized on Facebook to "any who overshot the landing" and expressed thanks to rescue personnel.–––Information from: LNP,
