Pups and Pints raises $5,000 for Palmerton PD

The Palmerton Police Department received a sizable donation on Friday, and it was all thanks to some generous patrons and pooches at Joey B's Bar and Grill.

Owners Chip and Shari Solt presented Police Chief Randy Smith with a $5,000 check which will go toward a new computer system in the department's new cruiser."He approached me, he told me what he was going to be doing and asked if we could use the money for something. I told him yes, and told him approximately what it would cost, and he went up and above that."The money came from a special event the restaurant held in June, Pups and Pints, where customers could bring their dogs in for a small fee."Both my daughters and my wife came up with the idea to raise money, do a fundraiser where you could bring your dog to lunch. The Palmerton Police were our first choice to donate the money to," Solt said. "We sold raffle tickets, we had a bunch of local businesses - Trendy Pawz, Palmerton Paws, a few pet stores and greyhound rescues came - that collaborated so we could give out some nice prizes and gifts. Between our sales and the raffle, we raised $5,000 for the Palmerton Police Department, as well as some money for the Pocono Greyhound Rescue."The bar even got their hands on a specially made brew from Nimble Hill called Black Magnolia, which sold out that day."It's a pecan and peach wheat beer, which is pretty southern, and Magnolia here is a rescue from the south, so we thought it was a good fit," Shari said as she pet the black lab and pit bull mix that she and her husband are watching for their daughter.Surprisingly, even with about 500 customers and 85 dogs coming out for the event, everything went smoothly."The dogs were amazing. There were no barkers, she was probably the worst one," Shari said, pointing to Magnolia. "They were so calm, they loved it. At the end of the night, there was a lot of vacuuming going on, but it was nice. They loved their doggy meal, which was hamburger, rice, and sweet potatoes, and they all got a doggy treat."Shari said that the event couldn't have been as successful as it was without the help of Joey B's dedicated staff."The Joey B's staff gets so excited doing stuff like this. They all chipped in, a lot of the girls did things on their own time, like making the bandannas. They ran to get the spent grains from Weyerbacher to make treats for the dogs. They're all asking when the next events going to be, because they all like it, they all chip in with the work, and they all have a good time," she said.Customers are also eager to attend the next Pups and Pints event, which may be happening sometime soon. Solt suggested they may host 'The Dog Days of Summer,' one of the many fundraising events the restaurant holds for the community. Former beneficiaries have included the Palmerton swim team, the Parent Teacher Organization, and the girl's softball team. The Solts hope to host some events for first responders, including the fire department, sometime soon.As for Pups and Pints, and the hefty donation it brought in, Smith and the police department are incredibly grateful for the fun event and the community support."It was wonderful. After I left, I came back. It was a good day," Smith said. "It was awesome, and we can't thank Chip and Joey B's enough."
