Retired Whitehall superintendent fills gap in Northern Lehigh

Tabbed Thursday night as Northern Lehigh School District's acting superintendent, Jack Corby isn't planning on merely keeping the seat warm.

The retired Whitehall superintendent and Nesquehoning native wants to keep a good thing going."I'm not looking to just put my time in," he said. "I'm here to fulfill all the duties to make this as comfortable a transition as possible. I'll be here to support the staff and the administration until the district has someone on board."Corby, who currently resides in Schnecksville, will start July 1 at a daily rate of $525 in the interim capacity.Outgoing superintendent Michael W. Michaels is retiring June 30 after nine years with the district.Corby is no stranger to Lehigh County schools. He served as superintendent in the Whitehall-Coplay School District for over 11 years before retiring last year and was the director of secondary education for four years prior to that. His past stops also included time as assistant principal and a teacher in Tamaqua Area School District, and elementary school principal and assistant high school principal in Palmerton Area School District.Corby currently serves as commissioner for the Middle States Association of Colleges and Schools."Having been a superintendent in Lehigh County, I'm familiar with the district," Corby said. "I sat down with Mr. (Gary) Fedorcha and everything about the district is attractive. They have a number of good things going on and it's a privilege and an honor to be a part of that."Fedorcha, school board president, said the district is fortunate to be able to have someone with Corby's experience to fill the role."He's planning to get off and running," Fedorcha said. "He'll be here over the summer to meet with the staff and principals."Whether his stay at Northern Lehigh is short or long, the focus for Corby remains the same."We're here for the kids," he said. "That is the priority for all of us."
