Pleasant Valley has hired a law firm experienced in criminal matters to represent the district at a grand jury proceeding.
Thursday night school board director-elect, Donna Yozwiak asked the Pleasant Valley school board what type of law attorney Marc Neff practiced. She was questioning action from June 8 when the district hired the Philadelphia law firm at a retainer of $2,500 and an hourly rate not to exceed $495.Upon further inquiry, board attorney Daniel Corveleyn said the grand jury is being convened in Monroe County and that the proceedings are confidential."Several employees of the district were summoned to testify at a confidential grand jury proceeding," Corvelyn said. "We were all advised not to discuss the matter. I and the board thought that it would be prudent to hire someone who is more experienced in criminal matters to represent the employees."Corvelyn added that he couldn't comment since he did not have any details."This is the only school district in the county to hire a criminal defense attorney," Yozwiak said. "I will be watching the bill pay."Calls to the district attorney's office about the grand jury were not returned as of presstime.
