Carbon County court - DUI

Five defendants in pending criminal cases entered guilty pleas to driving under the influence charges on Tuesday in Carbon County court.

Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas from the following:Brandon Alex Bennyhoff, 26, of Summit Hill, was arrested on April 8, 2015, by Lansford police along Patterson Street. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance. He was previously placed in the county's Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program but was revoked.Matika sentenced him to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.He will begin the jail term at 6 p.m. June 30.Eugene Anthony Kochan, 22, of Lansford, was arrested on Aug. 21, 2016, by Lansford police along Abbott Street. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Kochan is currently an inmate in the county prison serving a sentence on other charges. His parole date is Aug. 23.Matika placed him on probation for six months and ordered he pay a fine of $300, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 25 hours of community service. The probation runs concurrent with the sentence he is now serving.Elijah Nathan Dustin Nicholas, 26, of Albrightsville, was arrested on Nov. 25, 2016, in the 800 block of Patterson Street by Lansford police. A test revealed the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Nicholas can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.Steven Paul Paulino, 25, of Bronx, New York, was arrested on April 10, 2016, along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. A test revealed a 0.08 BAC and the presence of a controlled substance.Sentencing was deferred so Paulino can obtain a comprehensive drug and alcohol evaluation.Kenneth John Pridmore, 60, of Effort, was arrested on Feb. 25, 2014, along I-80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge. He refused a blood test.Sentencing was deferred so Pridmore can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation and also apply for placement in the county's Intermediate Punishment Program - house arrest.Those sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
