Carbon County court - drug cases
Seven defendants in pending drug-related cases entered guilty pleas on Tuesday in Carbon County court.
Judge Joseph J. Matika accepted the pleas from the following:Jeremy Frank Lockwitch, 29, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of a controlled substance - methamphetamine.He was arrested on Aug. 4, 2016, in the300 block of Abbott Street, when Lansford police responded to a report of suspicious people in the area. Lockwitch was one of those found on scene.He is currently serving a six- to 18-month prison term in Monroe County prison on other criminal charges. His minimum was June 22.Matika placed him on probation for a year and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance for drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service.James R. Moore, 54, of Jim Thorpe and formerly of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on March 19, 2016, by Lansford police in the borough midrise apartment building at 430 E. Bertsch St. Residents of the facility smelled marijuana coming from his room. Police investigated and found marijuana and paraphernalia.He told Matika he was using the drug for health reasons. Matika told him the use of marijuana for drug reasons will be legal in the state soon, but not yet.He was placed on probation for six months and ordered him to render 25 hours of community service.Lauren Krystine Dovan, 21, of West Hazleton, pleaded to one count of possession of a small amount of marijuana.She was arrested on March 1, 2016, following a traffic stop along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge.Matika imposed a fine of $250 and costs.Joyce L. Card, 38, of Lansford, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.She was arrested on April 17 by Lansford police at the police station. She was picked up on a warrant, and while being processed, police found drug paraphernalia on her. She is an inmate in the county prison facing a probation violation.Matika sentenced her to time-served (42 days) to one year in jail and ordered she get a drug and alcohol evaluation, zero tolerance on drug and alcohol use and render 50 hours of community service and was paroled.Scott William Houser Jr., 33, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on May 12 by Kidder Township police along Route 534 in the area of Hickory Run State Park following a vehicle stop.He was placed on probation for a year on each count, running concurrently, and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Christian Al Youngcourt, 24, of Hazleton, pleaded to one count of possession of marijuana.He was arrested on April 11 along Plane Street by Weatherly police following a traffic stop.Matika imposed a fine of $200 and costs.Justin Edward Oppelt, 25, of Nesquehoning, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.He was arrested on Feb. 24 by Nesquehoning police in the100 block of West Railroad Street.He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
