Relay for life

The Relay For Life for the Tamaqua area and surrounding communities will be held this weekend, from 2 p.m. Friday to 2 p.m. Saturday. This year's theme is Disney.Official opening ceremonies will be held at 2

p.m.Friday.Friday's activities also include the parade of teams at 5:30 p.m. and luminaria ceremony at 9 p.m.The Survivor's Breakfast will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday.The event will be held at the Tamaqua Area School District's football field.Summer concertsThe Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce continues its 11th Annual Summer Concert Series with an appearance by Magic Stew, sponsored by Versum Materials, this Thursday.Concerts will be held from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on select Thursdays throughout the summer months with all events to be held on the platform of the Tamaqua Train Station.Additional concerts will be: June 29, Six to Midnight, rock, sponsored by Tom's Auto Body and Marine; July 13, It takes Two, top 40s and classics, sponsored by Cal's Tire and Auto Services; July 27, Big and Bad Rockabilly Cats, sponsored by the Tamaqua Station Restaurant.Tamaqua seniorsThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens met June 15 with 60 members in attendance. President Melody Weicker conducted the business session and provided the inspirational reading "Heart Gifts."Ellie Sidoriak, Jacque Patrick and Mike Rega were added to the sick list. Joan Fredericks and Mary Ann Laughlin were welcomed back.Upcoming events include: June 26, trip to Shady Maple; June 29, celebration of May and June birthdays.The group is open to anyone 55 or older.Meetings are held at 1 p.m. Thursdays at the Tamaqua YMCA, 1201 E. Broad St.Bethany ECThe Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church.Also on Sunday, the church picnic will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at the West Penn Rod and Gun Club.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, prayer gathering at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, worship team meets at 7 p.m., worship team leaders meet at 8 p.m.Good News day camp will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. from June 26 through June 30.St. John LutheranThe Rev.
