State police at Frackville are being helped by the state police Troop L Major Case Team and the Forensic Service Unit in their investigation into the death Monday of the Schuylkill County lawyer.County Coroner Dr. David J. Moylan said late Monday that Marchalk's death is suspicious.Marchalk was found dead Monday morning at 21 Pear St., where he had lived with his wife, county Treasurer Linda Marchalk, at 21 Pear St., Barnesville.According to court records, Gary Marchalk filed for divorce in May.His body was found after someone called 911 Monday and reported someone in cardiac arrest at the couple's Ryan Township home.Marchalk, 60, was pronounced dead at 12:04 p.m. by Deputy Coroner David Truskowsky.County District Attorney Christine Holman said she'll refer any criminal prosecution to the attorney general's office.Holman, who also lives in Barnesville, knew the Marchalks socially.Gary Marchalk is survived by sons Michael D. Marchalk, 37, and Matthew D. Marchalk, 33.Their mother and his first wife, MaryAnn Marchalk, died in September 1997.Marchalk is a cum laude graduate of Widener School of Law, a magna cum laude graduate of New York Institute of Technology, a graduate of McCann School of Business and Tamaqua Area High School.His Tamaqua law practice handled divorce, custody, support, protection from abuse, children and youth, criminal defense, civil and commercial litigation, real estate, federal and state tax matters, personal injury and other matters.Marchalk, a Republican who ran for Commonwealth Court judge in 2011 but lost to James P. Goodman, was a member of the Pennsylvania Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers.He previously worked for the law firm of Cerullo, Datte & Wallbillich, P.C, and operated Northeast Abstract LLC, a title insurance agency and affiliated accounting and tax firm, with his wife.Linda Marchalk took office in 2016.Kathy Kunkel and the Associated Press contributed to this story.
