Area woman celebrates 100 years

Jenny Kresge of Lehighton celebrated her centennial birthday Saturday surrounded by family members in Mahoning Township. A party held by family at her Lehighton residence was filled with food and showcased pictures of Kresge's long and helpful life to honor the centenarian. State Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon, presented Kresge with a state House citation to celebrate the occasion.

Kresge, nee Balliet, was born on June 10, 1917, in Jamestown. She married Kenneth Kresge, with whom she had three children whom she raised after Kenneth passed away in Jamestown. Today she has 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.Kresge worked in multiple mills throughout her life, including Bishop's Mill and Peerless Mill. An avid sewer, she taught many of her family members how to sew by helping them make their wedding dresses, pajamas and customized clothes for dolls.Kresge is a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Lehighton, and is a fan of polka music and bingo games.
