Weatherly library bid rejected for high cost

It's back to the drawing board for one Community Development Block Grant project in Packer Township.

On Thursday, the Carbon County Commissioners voted to reject the bid submitted by Reilly Mechanical of Minersville for renovations to the Weatherly Area Community Library's kitchen and hallway. Reilly had submitted a bid of $22,050.Commissioner Thomas J. Gerhard, who is involved with the library, said that the bid was rejected because "it came in entirely too high."He said that the county and library is now looking to see what they want to do about the project and wasn't sure if it would be rebid or reworked. In other matters, Gerhard wanted to clarify an article that ran in the Times News on June 9 regarding a resolution for Weissport's 225th anniversary of its founding and 150th anniversary of its incorporation as a borough. He said that the article was incorrect in saying that the commissioners forgot to pass a resolution, because the county was not made aware of the celebration ahead of time."We did not forget," he said. "We have a fantastic staff here. That is something we would not forget. It was not an error on our part."
