One killed in crash on I-80 in Carbon

One person was killed in a one-vehicle crash along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County, Sunday night which left four others injured, one seriously. All people involved are from Brooklyn, New York.

State police at Fern Ridge said the crash occurred at 11:53 p.m. in the eastbound lanes.Troopers said Jose Padilla, 34, was driving a 2004 Saturn VUE when he lost control. The vehicle traveled onto the right shoulder where it overturned multiple times and came to final rest on the right shoulder.A 50-year-old male passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. His name was not released pending notification of next of kin.Another passenger, Mildred Ruiz, 44, sustained serious injuries while Padilla and two other passengers, Robenson Murat, 35, and Natividad Jimenz, 30, all sustained moderate injuries, troopers said.All the injured were transported to Geisinger Wyoming Hospital in Plains Township, Luzerne County.Fern Ridge troopers were assisted by troopers from the Hazleton barracks and volunteers from the Lake Harmony Fire Company.
